Dear Elmhurst Resident,

In May, the Elmhurst Citizens’ Police Academy Alumni Association will introduce the Pace Car Program to our community.  This initiative is a citizen-based effort to reduce speeding on our city streets.  The need for this initiative is clear:  traffic concerns and speeding are the most common complaints residents have about our city, according to city surveys.  Ironically, many of the offenders are Elmhurst residents!  The Pace Car Program addresses the issue by encouraging drivers to take responsibility for the impact their cars have on the roads they use.  It attempts to increase driver awareness of the neighborhood, not just the roads through the neighborhood.

Through this program we not only hope to encourage drivers to drive the legal speed limit, but we also hope to change drivers’ attitudes about being behind the wheel.  A few of the program goals are:

·        To reduce speeding on streets throughout our community

·        To raise awareness of how an individual’s car use impacts the quality of life on other residents’ streets

·        To encourage drivers to leave early and allow enough travel time to get to their destination, thereby reducing the temptation to speed

·        To promote courteous habits

·        To raise awareness that cars share the road with bicyclists and pedestrians

You can get more information on this program by visiting our website at www.ecpaaa.com .  From the home page, click on “Pace Car Program.”  Also watch for more information in upcoming city publications and the local papers.  Or, if you’re ready to sign-up, just complete and sign the pledge form below and return it in an envelope to:
